REBATES on Municipal Rates for Pensioners
The following information is provided to assist those who may be eligible in seeking a rates rebate from the City:
CONDITIONS for Pensioners between ages 60 and 69
Pensioners must be 60 years or older, and must own and personally occupy the property, the value of which must not exceed R2,500,000.
• Pensioners dependent on a National Security Grant qualify for 100% rebate on successful application.
• Pensioners who are not on a National Security Grant, but whose gross monthly income falls below R10,545 qualify for 100% rebate on successful application.
• Pensioners who are not on a National Security Grant, but whose gross monthly income is above R10,545 but less than R18,073 qualify for 50% rebate on successful application.
In case of joint ownership, at least one of the owners must be 60 years of age or older.
If the applicant owns more than one property, the rebate is applicable for only the property where the applicant actually lives.
CONDITIONS for Pensioners older than 70
Pensioners 70 years or older must own and personally occupy the property, whose value must not exceed R2,500,000.
There is no limit on income.
